Description

Portrait of Lewis Brindley/AKA Xephos from the Yogscast.

Hoping to do a portrait of everyone, let me know if you want anyone in particular. I'm drawing Duncan next.

I was told my portraits were "too realistic", so I purposely made errors in this to make it less so. Let me know if it is better.

Comments and crit welcome.

Improvement Club:

Backgrounds, I suck at them. Help me. I'm also trying to make the skin more realistic :)

NOTE:

While I actively encourage criticism, please don't send me notes telling me about other artists on DeviantART I should look into for "style" tips on my portraits. I have my own style,
I appreciate the thought, but it can be a little patronizing. I get patronized enough in my daily life, please don't extend that to here. There is a difference between technique and style; a lot of people don't seem to understand that.

Thank you for taking the time though - I'm not bitching, I'm not up my own ass, I just have my own way of doing things. (hints on lighting use/colour use/texturing/proportions etc are not what I'm getting at; it's people telling me to draw portraits like :iconailovc: or :iconzhuzhu: because they're "better than me" - that's probably true, but they have their own style and I have mine, and whether I decide I'm going to change the way I do things is up to me. Stop telling me to draw like other artists. Please.)

At first, I thought it was a photo, it took me a serious minute of pure staring until I zoomed in and scrolled around the area. The thing that got me was the hair, it caused me to think. "Wait - Is it a photo?" and then I scrolled to the eyes and noticed it was a drawing. It was magnificent I say! I noticed some errors though, the strap on the right had floating pieces over it, but only recently spotted it while staring at the magnificence while typing. Also on the right - His ear wasn't shaded as realistic - But I can't blame you since shading is pretty hard. But to sum it all up -
Amazing and very well detailed!
